Michigan Mobility Wallet Launches with Commitment to Serving Veterans

The Feonix Michigan Mobility Wallet program launched on Purple Heart Day – in five counties (Hillsdale, Jackson, Kent, Lenawee, and Wayne).

Purple Heart Day in the United States holds deep significance for veterans and their families. It is a day dedicated to honoring the sacrifices and valor of these brave individuals, acknowledging their enduring service to the nation. For living recipients of the Purple Heart, Purple Heart Day is a time for reflection and commemoration. It is a day to remember the challenges they faced, the pain they endured, and the scars they bear, both physical and emotional. It serves as a reminder that their sacrifices have not been forgotten.

Ribbon cutting events were held August 7, 2023 in Grand Rapids, Jackson, and Detroit with over 75 partners, veterans, and guests in attendance throughout the day.

Research-based evidence indicates the lasting impact of combat experiences on veterans and studies have shown that supportive initiatives, such as therapy and peer support groups, are essential in aiding their recovery and reintegration into civilian life. However, if transportation is not available or affordable, very few resources are available.

With over half a million veterans (567,919) in the state of Michigan, addressing the unique and complex transportation barriers they face is essential. The Feonix Michigan Mobility Wallet program is committed to addressing veterans transportation needs, giving them access, independence, and flexibility to not just a “ride” but a “mobility ecosystem” that includes public transportation, small businesses, nonprofit human service agencies, Uber, and volunteer drivers who are reimbursed mileage.

Transportation plays a critical role in ensuring that veterans have access to the essential healthcare they need, as well as social support. Reliable transportation options must be available to ensure they can attend doctors appointments consistently, access healthy food, and age in place. Feonix is excited to begin this journey with our incredible community partners in serving Veterans and we look forward to sharing updates along the way.  For more information about the program visit https://michiganmobilitywallet.org/.
